Want a healthier version of a juice box? Try adding a Ningxia Red packet in your kid’s lunch. Pack a straw if needed (they can turn the packet over and poke the straw through the bottom of packet). OR, freeze the packet over night, throw it in the lunch box and they will have a tasty slushy for a lunchtime treat.
Many families love to use Magnify Your Purpose and Brain Power on school days as they may help with focus and concentration. Try applying to back of neck before school or homework time. You can also add to a diffuser bracelet or necklace and send them on their way.
We can’t talk about Back to School without talking about THIEVES. All the Thieves!
Young Living has created an entire line of Thieves products to help us keep our families and homes healthy. Clean with Thieves, diffuse Thieves, wash dishes with Thieves and so on. Our favorite way to use Thieves during the school year is to diffuse it after school, right as everyone is coming home, and at night, just as soon as we feel we might have something coming on.
At the start of every new school year, we’re always looking for ways to simplify our lives. Many of us want to streamline our morning time as much as possible, but we also want to make sure our kids are being fueled with a healthy breakfast before we send them off.
One healthy breakfast option is full fat Greek yogurt with your kid’s choice of Vitality citrus oil and fresh fruit. Stay stocked up on berries because it’s easy for the kids to grab and add to the yogurt, AND because they are all high in antioxidants and vitamins. Because Greek Yogurt isn’t sweet, try letting kids add a little honey or sprinkle some coconut sugar over the top. You can also add the new Einkorn granola, yum!
Quick and Easy Fruity Greek Yogurt -1 cup full fat Greek Yogurt -Handful of fresh berries or fruit -1 drop of your favorite Vitality citrus oil -Sprinkle of coconut sugar or drizzle of honey -Einkorn Granola
Here are some combos we love: -Raspberry Lemonade (raspberries + Lemon or Lime Vitality) -Orange Creamsicle (bananas + Orange or Tangerine Vitality) -Berry Blast (blackberries, blueberries, + Lemon or Lime Vitality) -Strawberry Banana (strawberries, bananas + Lemon Vitality)
Back to school means cooler temperatures and fall weather. To support our respiratory systems while we sleep, we diffuse RC and Thieves in everyone’s bedroom. When we are breathing normally, we sleep better as well - and who doesn’t need a good night’s rest this time of year? Breathe Again Roll-on and Raven are also great respiratory system support oils!
Sleep is of the utmost importance during the school year, but sometimes we are SO busy with activities and homework that our minds have trouble slowing down and turning off.
Many like to diffuse Dream Catcher, Lavender and Cedarwood in their bedrooms at night. (Remember, Cedarwood is free this month with a starter kit purchase!) Gentle Baby is also a favorite soothing oil to diffuse as well. You can also try applying any of these oils to the spine or bottoms of feet, just prior to bedtime.
Focus is a common theme for back to school. It’s hard to get back into the routine of sitting in a schoolroom when you’ve been free all summer! Don’t worry - there are many different combinations of oils for you to try.
One favorite blend is a Peppermint, Citrus Fresh and Rosemary roll-on. Apply to the back of neck when studying. It would also be a great diffuser combo for when the kiddos are doing homework. Try 4 drops Citrus Fresh, 3 drops Peppermint and 2 drops Rosemary in the diffuser. Peppermint and Citrus Fresh may support concentration and alertness. Rosemary may support memory function. Put them together and they are the perfect trio to get your focus on!
How about a nutritious after school snack that will fill those bellies too? Try the Einkorn Spiced Applesauce Bread from the Einkorn Cookbook! This recipe uses Young Living’s Einkorn flour, that is even safe for people with gluten sensitivities. Nutrients are more abundant in einkorn grain than in modern wheat. It’s highly nutritious, unhybridized and low in gluten - a must have for your pantry!
Einkorn Spiced Applesauce Bread
Ingredients: 1 ¼ cup applesauce 1 cup organic evaporated cane juice crystals (can substitute sugar) ½ cup coconut oil 2 eggs 1 drop Cinnamon Vitality oil 1 drop Nutmeg Vitality oil 3 tablespoons milk of your choice 2 cups Einkorn flour 1 teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon baking powder ¼ teaspoon ground allspice ¼ teaspoon sea salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 - lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine the applesauce, cane juice crystals, coconut oil, eggs, essential oils and milk - stir well. Sift in Einkorn flour, baking soda, baking powder, allspice and sea salt - stir until smooth.
3. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 60 minutes.
We go through a lot of citrus oils to get us up and and at 'em in the morning. They are not only great for giving you a pep in your step, they can also boost the mood of those who are not feeling the morning vibe (also known as those who like to sleep till 10AM).
Try Orange, Lemon, Bergamot, Citrus Fresh and for an extra burst of energy, add Peppermint!
A favorite oil of ours to diffuse during study time is Peppermint.
It’s so fresh + invigorating!
Studies have shown that Peppermint improves focus and test scores when ingested or inhaled during tests. Add that to a diffuser necklace/bracelet and send with your kids! Another yummy tip is to add it to hot chocolate in the cold months.
During the school year, we’re always on the lookout for ways to support our immune systems. One way is with the Super C supplements. Give each kiddo a chewable Super C vitamin in the morning before school. And the parents take a Super C tablet (not chewable). Both of these items are powerful antioxidants + vitamin C supplements.
Chances are, your kids aren’t getting the daily dose of Vitamin C that is needed to help support their body, so consider adding this supplement into their daily routine.
For hectic mornings, these energy bites made in advance are awesome to have on hand. These no-bake energy bites taste just like a cookie, although they are full of protein and naturally sweetened. There is only 15 minutes of prep time and no baking!
Chocolate Peanut Butter No-Bake Energy Bites
Ingredients: 1 cup (dry) oatmeal (gluten free oats can be used) 2/3 cup toasted unsweetened coconut flakes 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/2 cup ground flax seed 1/3 cup honey or agave nectar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 3 or 4 drops of Thieves oil
1. Stir all ingredients together in a medium bowl until thoroughly mixed.
2. Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least half an hour, to make the mix easier to handle and mold.
3. Once chilled, roll into balls of whatever size you would like.
4. Store in an airtight container and keep refrigerated for up to 1 week. Makes about 20-25 bites.
*If the mix seems to dry, add in an extra tablespoon or two of honey or peanut butter. If the mix seems too wet (which may happen if you use natural peanut butter), add extra oatmeal.
Going back to school can be tough on all members of the family. Everyone needs some inspiration + motivation to switch gears and get back into the groove. Diffuse some Highest Potential during breakfast or run some through your hair (and your kiddos!), so that you are always performing your best. Consider purchasing your child a diffuser bracelet and dropping the oil directly onto the bracelet for him or her to smell throughout the day.
These little lozenges are a quick way to boost your child’s immune system while riding to and from school. If their throat is hurting, try the new Thieves Cough Drops to help with cough and sore throats.
As parents, we have a big job training our children to be good stewards
of their bodies. One of the best ways to do that, is equipping them to
be responsible for their own wellness. How about making a mini wellness
toolkit, for them to keep in their backpack? This can be something they
keep tucked away in their lockers, at the bottom of their book bag or in
their desk/cubby at school. It needs to be somewhere easily accessible
to them, without breaking the rules of the school. A good idea is to
make sure the teacher knows ahead of time, that your kiddo has this and
what’s in it.
Wellness Toolkit for Kids:
1. Head Spray -
1/2 oz Witch Hazel, 1.5 oz Distilled Water, 10 drops Lavender, 10 drops
Rosemary & 4 drops Tea Tree. Spray in hair, hats & backpacks
2. Hand cleaner - 5 tablespoons Aloe Vera Gel,
3-4 tablespoons Water, ¼ teaspoon Vitamin E oil & 8-10 drops
Thieves. Rub on hands. (OR, just purchase the Thieves Hand Purifier)
Tummy roller - 3 drops Lemon, 3 drops Frankincense, 1 drop Peppermint
& fill w/carrier oil of your choice. Roll on tummy area.
Focus roller - 10 drops Frankincense, 10 drops Copaiba, 10 drops
Cedarwood, 10 drops Vetiver & fill the rest w/carrier oil of your
choice. Roll on neck or wrists.
Include a few band-aids and lip
balms and you’ve got a little kit that your kiddo can reach for anytime!
You can store the supplies in a zip top bag, a pencil box or even a
cute little bag from the Target dollar spot…get creative!
